A Bug's Life

Last Saturday, Kevin and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather (extremely rare here) and head out to Kew Gardens. Absolutely amazing! We spent a few hours walking around and enjoying the sun. There was so much to look at--I took over 600 photos!. I managed to sort through a few of them. A few interesting ones happened to be of butterflies and some random bug on a flower. Kevin was a good sport (and an amazing assistant) about me changing lenses about a million times. Truly, I have to admit, I am curious to do some more macro photography. I can only imagine the possibilities and while I do tend to enjoy shooting people more than anything else (you'd never know it from the blog would you?) I may have to invest in a macro lens eventually after I manage to scrounge a few billion 'pences' together).

Well, hello there.

Take my photo please.
Boo!
This is my good side.

(Left) Kevin called me over to look at this. I thought it was part of the tree until I realized that it was actually some moth-butterfly hybrid. It had talons and I had to get much closer than I wanted to to photograph it.
Way too closer for comfort. It didn't move though. Check out the talons!

Happy Birthday Queenie!

In Canada, we celebrate the Queen's birthday with May 24 weekend. Here, they make a whole spectacle of it with a parade including drums, royals, guns, guards--the whole bit! After waiting for an hour or two, the parade finally started and I have to say was much more spectacular than the changing of the guard.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip

Drums!
Help me! Since the guards are not allowed to move at all, once and a while a senior guard will come along adjust their hat so they can see again, or fluff it up.

After the parade is over, the royal family goes back to Buckingham Palace to greet us common people from the balcony. We decided to stay and watch the fly over from the street.

Thailand in Trafalgar Square

There's always something going on in Trafalgar Square. This weekend, it was a Thai Festival! After a brief trip to Portobello Market to get the BEST falafel in the world from the Happy Vegetarian, I attended the festival along with a few friends and we did our best to get a few photos despite the masses of people.

Swinging in Trafalgar Square

I was feeling a bit homesick and seeing as how I am on vacation and Leanna is, well, always on vacation, she decided to take me to the Canada Store in Covent Garden so I could satisfy some of my Canadian cravings. Afterward, we decided to walk to Trafalgar Square to see what was going on. Turns out there was a swing dancing festival! About 20 partners were twirling and swinging about to some oldies and having a great time so we stopped to take a few pictures before heading to Tuk Tuk..mmmm.
